Chris Price (Ephraim Benton) is about to serve 180 days in prison for a first-time offense. When his mother (Karen Chilton) invites him home for dinner, he finds his younger brother (Darrell Vanterpool) following in his footsteps and his older brother, Shawn (Donté Bonner) disowning him. With his family falling apart, Chris is forced to re-examine his life and how he can bring everyone together for his mother’s birthday. Experience one of the most heartfelt independent dramas of the year, with an ending so real it will grab hold of you and never let go.
My cousin Mason Currey just wrote this excellent piece for Slate — an insightful, funny, and very personal review of the brilliantly cheesy 90’s show Walker, Texas Ranger, just released on DVD (all nine seasons). Highly recommended reading…and viewing, for that matter.
Trailer for the “Our Dreams” video, a track from Wu-Massacre, the new album from Shaolin Monk (i.e., Ghostface, Method Man, and Raekwon). The album drops on March 30, 2010. Video directed by the one and only Rik Cordero. Treatment by Rik and Schnore.
R.I.P. Alex Chilton. A legend. I consider myself so fortunate that I got to see him open for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with my cousin back in 1998. And he was ON.
Paul Westerberg said it best: “Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes ‘round / They sing: ‘I’m in love. What’s that song? / I’m in love with that song.’”
GET SOME, ODU!!! My deep sleeper pick in the NCAA tournament, Old Dominion (who kept William & Mary out of the tourney), upset Notre Dame to advance. Now I can breathe again.
From the Tribe of William & Mary (my alma mater) to the Washington Redskins to the Cleveland Indians, college and pro sports have, for over a century, used (some would say exploited) Native-Americans as their mascots. One team, however, stands out among the rest: the Atlanta Braves. Check out this gem, courtesy of my friend (and misguided Braves’ fan) Gordon McMahan: http://georgiainfo.galileo.usg.edu/nokateepee.htm.
PS - My cousin pointed out the irony of there being a Big Star sign in the background of this photo, following my post about the passing of the legendary Alex Chilton. Eerie.

My pal Justin Alcon (who took this photo — my favorite ever) urged me to do a blog. Hello, world.
